My in-laws have decided I am snotty because I am particular about food and household things. They call me Martha Stewart because I buy Kraft Macaroni instead of the generic store brand that is 33 cents a box. I also replace my pillows and sheets every couple years instead of using ones I inherited from my mother (like my sister-in-law does. SOmeof her pillows are 30 years old!)

I'd like to raise my children to appreciate nice things and not just buy everything at the Salvation Army or dollar aisle of the local supermarket.

I have arguments with my girl friend all the time about this sort of thing.
She thinks that wanting to get a bargain or make do in order to save money is just being cheap.

Maybe your in-laws are just jealous or maybe you come off as a snob.
Ask them about it, but don't change your lifestyle or feel badly because they don't approve of you.

I'm paticular about certain things too and I'm sure I come off as a snob to others but, you just have to be the way you are going to be and let others get used to you.

Does it really affect their day to day life that you like Kraft brand mac and cheese? If that's all they have going on in their lives then that's pretty sad.

When it comes to stuff like this I always end up taking the Pulp Fiction approach... (remember the scene when Quinten Terrentino (sp?) is ranting about the coffee?)

"Yeah I buy Kraft mac and cheese because when I eat it, I like to TASTE it. When YOU buy mac and cheese it tastes like shit. We aren't in a F##kin' depression, I think you can drop an extra .33 cents on a decent box of mac and cheese instead of that dried up stale noodle product that turns your teeth yellow when you eat it."
