I have very large areolas, so big in fact that I have refused to wear a bikini top at the beach. My husband thinks I am being silly about this, and overly shy. Maybe he's right?

Do your areolas stick out past the bikini top? If mine were that big I would refuse to wear those too.

How much do the areolas stick out past the edge? Are they high contrast compared to the rest of your breast skin?

Have you looked hard for bikini tops that are built for MILF types that offer more coverage? You can always buy the tops and bottoms separate so you can show off as much ass and as little tit as you want.
